An emerging community in Whitby, ON

God is doing a new thing in Whitby, Ontario! Whitby is a town located in the centre of the Durham Region, on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Given its close proximity to Toronto, the community is full of families and marked by a strong focus on children and youth. With over 10,000 Chinese people in Whitby, there is a growing need for a Mandarin church in the area.

This is the call that Whitby Chinese Alliance New Venture, led by David Pan, is responding to.

David moved to Whitby during the pandemic. Once the town began to reopen, he started forming relationships with others in the area, especially through a local football team. This ultimately led him to start an outreach group in his home, which currently has over 20 adults and children participating every Saturday! Increasingly, local Mandarin-speaking believers have joined the group for prayer and worship, with an earnest desire to reach Chinese people in Whitby with the good news of Jesus.

As this community launches as a New Venture, their hope is to form more outreach groups, begin Sunday worship at the Eastern Canadian District Office in the area, and even start a VBS program in the summer of 2023!

This New Venture represents a partnership between the Canadian Chinese Alliance Church Association (CCACA) and the Eastern Canadian District.
