An emerging community in Montréal, QC

In 2021, Ambrose House developed as a community living ministry in the heart of downtown Montreal, with the vision to serve and share the love of Jesus with university students. After two years spent in this co-living centre, the desire to continue doing life together in Christian community was expressed by Ambrose residents. God opened a door to rent out adjacent apartments on Baile Street, near Concordia University, through a Christian landlord connected to Montreal Chinese Alliance Church. Soon, Baile St was launched as a New Venture. Ten residents had moved into the building as of September 2023, and been partaking in intentional community life.

Under the leadership of Anka Johow, Baile St exists for people to know Jesus through community living. Anka explains, “We desire to remember rhythms that Jesus embodied, like close fellowship with each other in daily life, mentoring, encouraging each other to seek Him and rest in Him, praying for each other and sharing meals and more of life with each other.” Together, the group aims to extend grace to people in their walk of faith and life circumstances, remind each other of their identity in Christ and the availability of His Spirit, learn and grow together, celebrate different backgrounds and personality types within the community, and pursue peace and reconciliation in relationships. The hope is that residents of Baile St would be formed in the likeness of Jesus through these kingdom-minded initiatives.

  • Give thanks to God for leading the group to their new communal home, for providing furniture and other needs in this season. Anka adds, “[Praise God] for the support from New Venture Implementers Jasmine Hum and Troy Wiesner as we discerned this new beginning!”

  • That the community would grow in friendship with the Holy Spirit and know the presence and kindness of Jesus more in their daily life.

  • For the many guests staying in the apartments. Please pray that they would taste and see that the Lord is good!
