A ministry for Indigenous youth in Thunder Bay, ON
NorthWind Family Ministries seeks to come alongside Indigenous peoples in Northern Ontario in the name of Jesus. In 2020, New Ventures partnered with NorthWind to develop the NorthWind Gathering. This weekly gathering welcomes a diverse group of people from Thunder Bay's downtown core and beyond for a community meal, devotional, and Bible study.
NorthWind also works with Indigenous youth from northern Indigenous communities. They are honoured to be invited to partner with Indigenous communities to help support their young people. They do so by offering a safe, supportive environment to youth when they are in the city.
In 2023, NorthWind began exploring the potential to expand its youth programming to provide further support to these youth. This will be done through the development of an ecosystem of programs and support systems in collaboration with Indigenous adolescents, their families, and community leadership. The project is officially launching in the summer of 2023 as a New Venture currently called NorthWind Thriving Indigenous Youth.
The New Venture aims to contribute to the safety, well-being, and growth of Indigenous youth as they journey from their communities to Thunder Bay and back. The team will partner with Indigenous communities, leaders, and other organizations to offer trauma-informed programs and spaces that provide young people with opportunities to connect and flourish.
NorthWind Thriving Indigenous Youth is supported by the Central Canadian District, the Northwestern Ontario/ Northeastern Manitoba Regional, and partnering churches in the area.
