Our heart is to support leaders as they step out to do new things in Jesus’ name across Canada. We’re pleased to introduce you to a young couple named David and Karoline Pearson.

David and Karo long to see a new generation of young adults encounter Jesus in Quebec, and specifically in the town Farnham. Here are a few questions we asked to help you get to know them.

Q. What does your New Venture look like?

David: Farnham is a small rural town in Quebec that is growing every month. Many people are moving in to slow down and experience a small town vibe. The town happens to have two small evangelical churches, and we are partnering with both of them.

Our New Venture is focused on working with teenagers and young adults from these two churches. The goal is to invest in these young leaders and help them grow in their relationship with Jesus. Our greatest prayer is to see a revival start with the youth of Farnham.

Before COVID-19 hit, we were meeting two Saturday nights and two Friday nights a month. The Friday night meetings are called Les soirées 360. These meetings last around an hour and focus on three things: worship, teaching and praying. The 360 evening serves as an entry point for new young adults and friends to learn about God in a different setting. Our Saturday night events resemble more typical youth group nights. Once in a while, we have activities like sports or games nights.

In the recent days of COVID, we also put together a regular Facebook Live event called Barbu + Bible (Beards + Bible). The event is hosted by my brother Sam and I. We talk about life and faith and also have some interviews with key leaders. We are reaching close to 200 people each episode!

Q. What are you most excited for as you think to the future?

David: We are really excited to see what God can will do with the young adults we work with. We have seen leaders rising up and grow closer to God. There’s a desire to reach more and more people in our community. We are praying about how to reach the young adults in Farnham and even further away. We are also excited about Barbu + Bible. Our youth use it to reach their friends.

David and his brother Sam host a weekly conversation with the hope of providing a welcoming space for French-speaking people to learn about Christianity and the Bible.

Q. What are some difficulties or challenges you have faced in recent months?

David: One of our big challenges is when our young adults move closer to Montreal or other places for school or work. But the biggest challenge is reaching French-speaking people, though that is no surprise to us. French-speaking young adults don’t really know much about God and are intimidated to engage with church-related activities.

Q. How can we be praying for you?

You can pray that God will use Barbu + Bible to reach more non-Christians in Quebec. This is a key strategy for our New Venture. Pray also that God will use our New Venture to start a revival in Farnham. We have big dreams and hope for this town.
