Often passed over as an unassuming suburb of Winnipeg, Transcona was called a “hidden gem” for its liveability according to a national study in 2019⏤and New Venture leader Kendall Schmitke has developed a love for the area and its people too. Kendall Schmitke and a faithful group of people in the Transcona area of Winnipeg, Manitoba have been praying and dreaming about a new work in the area for some time.

Since launched as a New Venture on June 1, 2020, with the partnership of Cornerstone Alliance, Kilcona Park Alliance, and the Canadian Midwest District, they have formed a core group and been networking with local churches.

Recently, Kendall shared the following update with us:

It’s a topsy-turvy time! Due to government restrictions our house churches are not allowed to meet in homes and our church buildings are only allowed 10% occupancy.

One of our partner churches, Cornerstone Alliance Church, is not using their church on Sunday mornings, so our house churches have been able to meet there instead and remain beneath the threshold. So, our churches with buildings are meeting online, and our house churches are meeting in the buildings! What a beautiful thing.

Kendall asks for prayer:

  • for wisdom to continue to navigate the pandemic

  • for new leaders to rise up

  • for people’s hearts to soften to the gospel
