First Alliance Church Spanish launches in Calgary, AB

As the kingdom continues to advance in Canada, local churches must be willing to plant churches that don’t look like them.

In the case of First Alliance Church in Calgary, an emerging Spanish congregation is a compelling next chapter in this story.

More than 48,000 Spanish speakers reside in the area surrounding First Alliance in Calgary. In fact, Spanish is the second largest language group in Calgary. Some time ago, aware of the growing need for Spanish speakers to encounter Jesus in their heart language, First Alliance began to dream of a new congregation.

In their search for a pastor to lead this new congregation, First Alliance discovered leader Hernando Muñoz and his wife Viviana. Uniquely, Hernando already has plenty of experience leading a New Venture!

The Muñoz family immigrated to Canada nearly 12 years ago when they were called to pastor a new initiative called Casa de Misericordia in downtown Toronto. Over the past years, he has been mentored by Eynar Mina, a seasoned leader at Primera Iglesia Alizana Hispana who oversees the local family of Spanish expressions.

We celebrate the history and experience that Hernando brings into this new role and are excited to observe how God brings about new leaders in new places with such care.
