Summer Invitation Series: Take your neighbourhood seriously

For this week’s summer invitation, we’re inviting you to take your neighbourhood seriously.

Here’s a great quote to consider from Canadian church leader Tim Dickau:

“Taking parish seriously is caring not just about the people in a neighbourhood but about the parks, the businesses, the civic efforts, the hidden or marginalized and the beauty of a place. I find it hard to imagine living into the fullness of God’s transforming vision for the kingdom if we don’t inhabit a place.”

Questions to consider: Do any words or images come to mind when I think of the hidden beauty of my neighbourhood? How would I describe the best aspects of my neighbourhood to a stranger?

Next step: Google Map your area and find a local green space or amenity you haven’t yet visited. Enjoy visiting this space.

Welcome to summer invitations. As we disengage from formal ministry commitments, summer can be a time to build a reading list, seek new voices, and be refreshed. Especially as pandemic restrictions lift, our heart is to help you get out there and rediscover Canada as we continue in our mission of hopeful engagement with the church and our Canadian context. Each week we will be sharing a simple summer invitation to help you see Canada in a fresh way.
