Summer Invitation Series: Celebrate Thoughtfully

For this week’s summer invitation, we’re inviting you to celebrate thoughtfully.

For many who come to Canada to find refuge or a new start, our country can be a place of hope and prosperity. Those who are born here often enjoy the privilege of peace and safety. And for some, the history of Canada contains more painful layers of brokenness and injustice.

What about you? Have you taken time to sit with the history of Canada? What do you feel as you reflect on our history?

Next steps: Take a moment to watch Don Amero’s mournful version of Oh Canada, sung at the Jets-Canadiens playoff game this year. How would you sing “Oh Canada” this year? Soulfully? Exuberantly? With hope? As a lament?

Welcome to summer invitations. As we disengage from formal ministry commitments, summer can be a time to build a reading list, seek new voices, and be refreshed. Especially as pandemic restrictions lift, our heart is to help you get out there and rediscover Canada as we continue in our mission of hopeful engagement with the church and our Canadian context. Each week we will be sharing a simple summer invitation to help you see Canada in a fresh way.
