Igniting Hearts for Mission in Toronto, ON

A partnership between a church and a New Venture in Toronto resulted in a successful summer camp experience for both congregations.

Newmarket Spanish is a vibrant New Venture reaching Spanish speakers in Toronto. Though it formally launched just before the pandemic in 2020 with an initial group of 30 people, now almost 80 people are gathering weekly in person. Michelle Quach is an emerging leader at Newmarket Alliance, a partnering church, who is especially passionate about this new work.

When lead pastor Jonathan Gonyou first mentioned during church announcements that Newmarket Alliance would be partnering with a new Spanish work, Michelle’s husband turned to her and said, “Could this be your future ministry?” God had been growing Michelle’s heart for the Spanish speaking community for years. As newcomers to Newmarket Alliance, they took this as a sign to make the community their new church home.

Now, working with leadership from both sides, Michelle is actively involved in identifying and developing areas of partnership between both congregations. Last summer, she helped leaders and kids from Newmarket Spanish to be involved in the Newmarket Alliance’s summer camp. In the end, the kids were split almost 50/50 from both churches even though it was only the first time the two congregations worked together. Michelle also provides translation support to Newmarket Spanish.

Michelle says that her involvement with this New Venture has reinvigorated her own faith and desire to participate in Jesus’ kingdom coming. “How joyful it is to submit to God and have Him do new things through us!”

Providing fresh opportunities for people with hearts ignited to be on mission in Canada is a significant step in advancing the kingdom of Jesus from sea to sea. As more and more people make their home in Canada, we will have many opportunities to share the gospel with those who have yet to encounter Jesus.
