Changing Up the Routines of Ministry: A Story from Fort St. John, BC

12Church is an emerging New Venture in Fort St. John, BC who is blessed with the partnership of Fort St. John Alliance.

12Church is seeking to start a disciple-making movement based in this northern area of BC but also extending beyond the region via digital resources.

Lead Pastor of Fort St. John Alliance, Andrew McGregor, describes their relationship with 12Church as providing accountability and support by being an affirming presence. He feels that being in relationship with this New Venture has given Fort St. John Alliance a fresh view of the community, church, and how to serve Jesus well. It has also grown a deeper passion in the church to love and serve the city as they see it through the eyes of this new work.

Says Andrew, “It is really easy to get in a routine of doing ministry⏤you get used to how things are and you become less creative. By seeing something new and different it has encouraged us to continue to evaluate what is best within what we do and what could shift or grow. In this way it has helped us to experience greater freedom to be who we are and who we are created to be.

“These years have been difficult years for everyone, but being a part of a New Venture during this time is helping us to see past our church’s concerns and to recognize the needs of the community around us. It is a really hopeful process⏤being a part of something new taking shape and seeing it make an impact. It has given us greater confidence to take risks and be intentional to care for the city that God has placed us in.”

Seeing churches expand their view of the kingdom of God and find their place in loving and serving their communities is an essential part of sharing the good news of Jesus from sea to sea.
