Advent Hope: RockPointe Intercultural New Venture
This Advent season, we invite you to join us as we reflect on the coming of Jesus and the inbreaking of His Kingdom on Earth. Together, we’ll discover how different New Ventures are learning to share the hope, joy, love, and peace of Jesus in their unique contexts and neighborhoods across Canada.
Advent reminds us that the coming of Jesus pierced the darkness with hope.
God’s people waited hundreds of years for their redeemer. As they waited, the Israelites surely cried out to God, wondering when their ultimate hope would come.
Yet, when He entered the human story, the long-awaited Messiah didn’t just bring hope to God’s chosen people, Israel, but to all people. In the Gospel of Luke, we read the angel’s words: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10, emphasis added)
Jesus, the coming King, answers the cry of every human heart.
This is what RockPointe Intercultural, an emerging New Venture in North East Calgary, Alberta, is all about. Their mission is to bring hope to immigrants and refugees, who too often find themselves at the margins of society, overlooked. They share, “Rockpointe Intercultural is a place with open arms, inviting you into loving Christian fellowship and discipleship, regardless of your ethnic background. . .We believe that we are called to reach the least-reached communities with the love of Jesus Christ.”
The New Venture’s leader, Naim Choi, explains that through programs for newcomers, they will provide practical help for relationship-building and adaptation to a new culture. In doing so, they seek to reflect the lasting hope found in Jesus–the savior born into every darkness, pain, transition and heartache.
This Advent, may we remember hope often begins with noticing the needs around us, and responding. We join Jesus at work in these new places so all people, even the least-reached and oft-overlooked, can encounter Him, too.
